Brock's Cooler

Brock's cooler was made for a Beach Weekend trip in April '11.  I wanted the cooler to be incredibly personalized so I included a re-creation of his tattoo on it as well as some of his favorite music and an inside joke of ours.

Side one is of a beach scene and included the title of our trip.  You can also note the barbed wire around the lid that is part of his barbed wire tattoo.

Side two is the Drake album cover for the album So Far Gone.  To create it I printed a blown up copy of the cover and made it into a stencil. You can also see more of the barbed wire tattoo.

Side three is based off the Blue Moon label replacing the beer's name with Brock's name. You can see where the tattoo begins.  Dropkick Murphy is also written on the cooler as it is his fraternity nickname.  The font is a font used by the band Dropkick Murphys.

Side four is based off an inside joke between Brock and I.  We both hated the song "Grenade" by Bruno Mars.  The only thing we disliked more was the music video for the song.  Brock is also from New Jersey and the term "grenade" has taken on new meaning thanks to the show Jersey Shore.  So, for this side I chose to paint a scene from the Bruno Mars video and then cover it with "No Grenades Allowed" to be a play on the song and show reference.  This also gives the best view of his tattoo.

Side five is the top of the cooler.  I wanted to represent his fraternity Theta Delta Chi as well has his family name, Lost Boys, on this side.  I painted the fraternity flag and then put his family name based off the Jersey Shore logo.  "Aw yeaa" is also a phrase often said by Brock and other brothers in the Lost Boy family.  I wanted to include it in the design.

Side six is probably my most favorite side of the cooler and probably the side that received the most attention.  Most people do not paint the inside of the lid of their coolers but I wanted it to be a surprise.  I also wanted it to be hidden given it is not appropriate to be displayed in all situations.  The song lyrics are taken from Pour Some Sugar on Me, one of our favorite songs.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of the cooler! It was a lot of fun to paint and really a great example of personalizing a cooler for the person.  Don't forget, you can visit my Etsy store and get your own custom cooler!  Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions!
